Born in Japan, Yumiko Yokoi started composition at the Kunitachi College of Music (Tokyo, Japan), music theory and orchestration at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (France) in particular with Thierry Escaich and Marc-André Dalbavie. She also studied with Allain Gaussin in Paris, then completed her training of composition and electronics in master's degree at the Haute École de Musique de Genève (Switzerland) with Michael Jarrell, Luis Naón and Eric Daubresse, and conducting class with Laurent Gay. She also followed the computer music course at IRCAM in 2009-10.
She participated to the Centre Acanthes, Journées Contrechamps, Académie Musicale de Villecroze, Voix Nouvelles de la Fondation Royaumont, and she is invited to numerous festivals like Musica de Strasbourg (France), Archipel de Genève (Switzerland), INTER/actions (Bangor University, UK), Takefu International Music Festival (Japan), Collecting Time - Dohjidai Gallery (Switzerland), Aspects des Musiques d'Aujourd'hui (Caen, France) etc. Her works are broadcast on Radio Suisse Romande, Radio France and RTBF-musiq3, performed by Orchestre National de France, Orchestre National de Lorraine, Brussels Philharmonic, Ensemble Contrechamps, Itinéraire, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Linea, Ensemble Multilatérale, Ensemble Matka, musiciens of Klangforum Wien... etc. In addition, collaborate with musicians of the same generation, such as Yusuke Ishii (piano), Tomoko Akasaka (viola), Carl-Emmanuel Fisbach (saxophone), occupies an important part of her creative activity.
She is winner of the 25th JSCM (ISCM Japanese Section) Award for Composers, of the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust's 6th Annual Pianist / Composer Commissioning Project in USA, also of the fourth edition of the Composers' Forum ['tactus 2011] in Belgium, and finalist of the Takefu Composition Award in 2012. She received scholarship awards from the city of Geneva, the Fondation Patiño, and the Nomura Music Fondation.
In 2012 she founded YProject, a co-production unit of "pianist-composer duo" with Yusuke Ishii. She is also member of Grup MixTour, a collective of young performers and composers in Spain (http://grupmixtour.wordpress.com) as Sound engineer - Composer.
Currently she lives in Paris.
